What Should My Baby Be Doing?
12 - 15 Months

How Your Child Will Grow:

Things You Can Do:

Physical:  Begins to walk by themselves; will cruise first (holding onto furniture); begin to climb

- Provide safe places for your baby

- Praise their efforts

- Walk hand in hand

Hand Skills:  Begins self feeding (lifts cup with two hands; starts to use a spoon); turns 2-3 pages at a time; tries to build/stack objects

- Provide baby size cups / spoons

- Give your baby books

- Give objects to stack (i.e. blocks)

Language: Talks nonsense words; voice goes up/down as if speaking (jargoning); can usually say two or more words besides “mama” “dada”

- Talk about day’s activities, household objects, toys and people

Cognition: Understands more of what is said; comes when called by name; starts to be aware of “do’s and dont’s”

- Give only simple directions at a time

- Teach your baby “shoulds” and “should nots” for safety

Social:  Plays by themselves, but also likes to be with other children and adults

- Spend some special time with your baby
