Things You Can Do:

Physical: Lifts head and chest when on belly; tries to roll over; sits with some support; kicks legs and moves arms actively when on back; looks at hands/fingers |
- Place your infant in different positions in the crib
- Hold him/her in sitting position, on occasion
- Turn your infant on their back
- Allow movement for exercise |
Hand Skills: Tries to reach and hold objects |
- Give your infant a few small, safe objects to play with such as a rattle |
Language: Makes babbling sounds such as “ee, ih uh”; sometimes laughs or giggles; turns head toward sounds such as bell, voice, and music |
- Praise your infant
- Show pleasure at their first sounds and repeat them back
- Sing and speak to your infant
- Look at your infant when speaking to him/her |
Cognition: Recognizes parents and familiar objects; i.e. parent’s faces, bottle, toys, mirror |
- Hold him/her in front of a mirror
- Play music for your infant
- Sing and speak to your infant |
| Social: Changes activity level when they recognize something familiar; i.e. kicks legs/arms |
- Show enthusiasm over new objects
- Smile and laugh with your infant
- Demonstrate a lot of affection to your infant
